Carnival in Spain

Carnival season is upon us! Today I want to introduce you to some of the most famous carnivals in Spain. If you happen to be in my country these days, don't miss out. I guess most of you are preparing your costume, aren't you? Let me know which one impresses you most.

Some carnivals in Ourense, Galicia, share a main character that wears a mask and dominates the fiesta: peliqueiro in Laza, cigarrón in Verín... Does this mask remind you of something? Check out the link above and find out more about the entroido (carnival in Galician language).

The Carnaval de Cádiz is one of the most interesting carnivals in Spain. Don't miss the chirigotas, groups offering satirical songs on Spain current affairs.

In Lantz, the carnival is full of traditions. The legend tells how the bandit Miel-Otxin is captured and executed.

The Sitges carnival is bright and colorful. Many tourists stop by this town to have a week of fun.

The Tenerife carnival is spectacular. The election of the carnival Queen starts the feast. It reminds me of Rio de Janeiro carnival.

I hope you have enjoyed this post. Only some of Spanish carnivals have been featured. Let me know if you have ever spent this festive season in Spain.

Have a great day!

Jasmine xx

  13. I've been to Ourence before, my parents are from a Portuguese town that sits right at the border of both countries. Growing up we'd always travel there because it was so close lol. I'm not sure if we did go to festivals there, but my parents love going and I mean loooooove those festas so we probably did. I don't remember though! It's been some time since I last travelled there.
