Ignoring the Fashion Rules

Hi! I am Vicky and I run The Curved Opinion. Jasmine has kindly asked me to do a guest post for her fantastic blog and so today I am talking about what fashion means to people.

For some, clothes are simply something to keep you warm and cover your body. Clothes are practical and need to be workable for day to day life.  For them, there are no fashion rules.

For others, fashion is all. The upcoming trends, where the hem line is this season; what patterns are emerging; what is now passé. There are finite rules that the fashion makers tell you that you cannot break, unless of course the trends change and the reverse of the norm becomes true!

Denim on denim, mixing clashing prints, bra straps showing, all of these have been very much a no no in the fashion world, until that is a celebrity wore the look and the same became popular to do so! (I’m looking at you, Sex and the City for the return of the visible bra straps!)

When it comes to fashion I think it needs to be less about the rules and more about what makes you happy. Don’t listen to what others tell you what you should wear. Try something and it gives you that little buzz of happiness, then wear it.

Most of the dresses in my closet don’t conform to what society and fashion tell me I should wear. High necklines should be avoided with large breasts and loud prints should be avoided to detract from the fact that I am a plus size woman, yet both feature heavily in my wardrobe and both make me happy.

You wear the clothes, they do not wear you. Check what is on trend each season, try things that you wouldn’t normally, wear different styles and update your look but above all, make fashion work for you. Make up your own fashion rules.

Ignorando las reglas de la moda

(traducido por Jasmine Rabuñal)

Bloguera invitada: Vicky Frankland (Reino Unido) de The Curved Opinion

¡Hola! Soy Vicky y mi blog es The Curved Opinion.

  2. I have to agree fashion should be all about what makes you happy after all it is a visible expression of whatever you feeling or who you are.

  3. This is a cause why I like fashion: fashion makes me happy and gives my days a inspiring vibe. If I would wear each day the same stuff in the same combinations I would be so bored by myself :) Thank you Vicky, I agree so to your words!

  4. Fashion should be about whatever makes us happy. I don't see myself as a 'fashionable' person, as in, I don't follow trends and catwalks and want to be in the latest new thing. I just know what I like and wear what I like. I think of my outfit posts more of 'personal style' than 'fashion' posts!
